Celebrate Comic Books
Next month, on Saturday, May 5th, it’s Free Comic Book Day! How long has it been since you read a comic book? A week? A year? Decades? Maybe even… never? Well, however long it has been, why not take advantage of the upcoming holiday to pick up a great story or two? Check in with local comic book dealers in and around Lee’s Summit, MO to see if they are celebrating.
We’ve put together our own set of comic book titles we think would be fun for members of our apartment community here at Summit Square.
“100 years ago, humanity was nearly wiped out by giant humanoid creatures called Titans, seemingly mindless beasts that live only to devour humans. The survivors have retreated to the safety of a series of 50-meter-tall walls… but one of those walls is about to fall, and humanity will have to fight with all its ferocity to survive.” Does a zombie apocalypse where the zombies are 15 meters tall and nearly indestructible sound interesting to you? This one’s for you, then.
“Kamala Khan is an ordinary girl from Jersey City - until she is suddenly empowered with extraordinary gifts. But who truly is the all-new Ms. Marvel? Teenager? Muslim? Inhuman? Find out as she takes the Marvel Universe by storm!”
“This Hugo Award-winning graphic novel chronicles the fall from grace of a group of superheroes plagued by all-too-human failings. Along the way, the concept of the superhero is dissected as the heroes are stalked by an unknown assassin. One of the most influential graphic novels of all time and a perennial bestseller, WATCHMEN has been studied on college campuses across the nation. But take note: it is a grim and graphic read that is not for the faint of heart.”
These titles are just a small sampling of what’s available. Many comic books have been introduced over the last 100 years. TheComicBooks.com, while not fancy, provides a wealth of information about the history of comic books, their creators, and pictures of comic book covers.
Who is your favorite comic book hero? What was the last superhero movie you saw or would recommend? Share in the comments and let us all know.
